BANGKOK, Thailand - Aron Baynes registered game-highs with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Australia past Angola 96-52 in a men's basketball second phase contest at the World University Games, Saturday.
The Washington State center was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and added a pair of blocked shots.
Baynes, a native of Cairns (pronounced CANS) is averaging 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds through three games in the tournament.
The Australians raced out to a 30-9 after one quarter and went on an 18-0 run in the second quarter to take control of the game at 48-10.
Australia, which led 52-16 at intermission and 65-33 after three quarters, outscored Angola 56-20 in the paint.
Baynes's nine boards were as many as any two Angola players combined as the Australians held a 45-25 advantage on the glass.
Australia (1-2) will take on the Czech Republic at 7 p.m. PDT, Sunday.
