PULLMAN, Wash. - Kelsey Bueno, a pole vaulter from Kent, Washington, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and compete for Washington State University in the fall of 2010, Head Coach Rick Sloan announced Tuesday.

Bueno is currently a senior at Kent-Meridian High School. As a four-year letterwinner in track and field, Bueno has shown successful progression as a vaulter. She is a two-time South Puget Sound League district champion. Last spring, as a junior, Bueno placed second in the Washington state 4A Championships with a personal best and school-record height of 11-feet, 9 inches. In 2010, Bueno is a team captain and is currently undefeated. She also competes in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and triple jump. Bueno's track and field coach at Kent-Meridian is Cougar track letterwinner, Ernie Ammons.

This winter, Bueno competed in the WSU Indoor Open placing second with a pole vault clearance of 11-3 3/4. She was also participated in the 2010 National Pole Vault Summit in Reno where she vaulted a season-best 11-4. Bueno participated in the Junior Olympics from 2007-2009, advancing to the national competition in each of those years.

Bueno has also lettered in wrestling, and has participated on her school's dance and cross country teams. The K-M dance team has finished seventh, second, and first in the state championships for the Hip Hop division.

"I am very happy to have Kelsey joining our vault group next year and look forward to having the opportunity to work with her," Cougar jumps coach Matt McGee said. "She brings a very positive, hard-working, and enthusiastic energy to an already very fun and hard working group. As a vaulter, Kelsey is already sound in a lot of sections and she has a very good combination of speed, strength, and coordination. I believe she has the ability to be a very good vaulter and I look forward to continuing to follow her progress this outdoor season and having her with us in the fall."

Bueno joins nine previously announced signees, all distance runners, joining the Cougars' 2010-11 teams:
