PULLMAN, Wash. -- Oregon State used Felicia Ragland's game-high 24 points and a go-ahead layin from Reda Petraitis to edge past host Washington State 65-62 in a women's Pacific-10 Conference basketball game Saturday afternoon at Friel Court.

Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) paced WSU (4-19 overall, 1-12 in Pac-10 play) with 20 points, while juniors Cathy McNeely (Phiolmath, Ore.) and Victoria Harrod (Nepean, Ontario) and senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) scored 10 each for the Cougars. Kerns also handed out a career-high 12 assists.

OSU (12-13, 8-5) used a huge advantage in rebounding, including a game-high eight from Ragland, plus her hot shooting hand, to thwart the Cougars' upset bid. The Beavers nearly doubled WSU's total on the boards 38-20, including a 24-10 advantage in the final half.

McNeely's jumper with just over 14 minutes to play boosted WSU to its largest lead of the game, 49-35. Two minutes later a three-pointer from Kerns gave WSU a 13 point advantage, 54-41.

Ragland then started OSU's comeback with a jumper and Petraitis gave the Beavers their first lead (63-62) since the game's opening basket, with a backdoor layin with 28.8 seconds left in the game. Over the final 12 minutes OSU outscored the Cougars 24-8, including 8-0 over the final 4:58.

"I don't think anyone wanted the ball at the end and I was a little disappointed in that," WSU head coach Jenny Przekwas said.? "I'm very frustrated with the attitude.? I don't think it was a winning attitude."

After a Kerns miss, Ragland added a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to give the Beavers a 65-62 lead. Junior Katie Nyseth (Cheshire, Ore.) missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.

WSU next plays at Stanford, Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
