NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGIN WITH WEST PRELIMINARY ROUND
The No. 14 Washington State women's team will have 16 athletes competing in 10 events while the No. 24 WSU men's team will have 20 participants competing 15 events at the NCAA Track & Field Championships West Preliminary Round, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 26-28, at Hayward Field in Eugene...field event competition begins each day at 10 a.m. with running events starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday...LIVE results can be found online at http://www.flashresults.com/2011_Meets/outdoor/05-26-NCAAWest/...free live webcast is available for viewing webcast at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday at www.goducks.com.
ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 38th season with the Cougar track program; 17th year as a head coach, 16th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...Sloan (decathlon/heptathlon) is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell (throws), head coach for cross country Pete Julian (distance), and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald (hurdles/relays), Ellannee Richardson (sprints/relays) and Matt McGee (jumps)...volunteer coaches include Bob Frey, Brett Josephson, Anthony Luna, Tim Riley, and Rob Williams.

Washington State competitors are among the national leaders in the latest TFRRS standings: Marissa Tschida's Pac-10 title javelin throw of 56.02m/183-9 leads that event with Cougar teammate Courtney Kirkwood fourth with a toss of 52.94m/173-8...Jeshua Anderson leads the men's 400m hurdles with his Pac-10 meet time of 48.13...Anna Layman's Pac-10-winning 800m time of 2:03.48 is third nationally...Holly Parent's high jump of 6-0 3/4 (1.85m) is tied for sixth-best.
