PULLMAN, Wash. -- Ellannee Richardson, five-time Washington State University All-American and current assistant coach for the Cougar track and field teams, has joined the USA National Indoor Track and Field team and will compete at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships as a member of the women's relay team.

Richardson, who ran the fastest time in the women's 400m dash prelims Saturday at the 2004 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston, finished fifth in the Sunday final at the Reggie Lewis Center.

After racing to a PR of 52.93 seconds in the 400m prelims, Richardson's final time of 53.66 was fifth-best of the eight finalists. Julian Clay was the 400m winner with a time of 52.85 while Gigi Miller was second with a time of 53.33. Both will compete in the open 400m at the World Championships.

"I didn't race very smart today and got behind early and got boxed in at the back," Richardson said of her race in the second section of the final.

Following Sunday's finals, Richardson was invited to join the 2004 USA Team competing March 5-7, at Budapest, Hungary. She will fly from Boston to Hungary Monday, March 1, to spend the week training with the team in Budapest.
