WSU Wins on First Day of Northwest Regional

STANFORD, Calif.--The WSU women's tennis team opened the ITA Northwest Regional with five singles wins and one doubles win.

In singles play, three athletes won their first round matches. Olga Musilovich defeated Carmen Pham of Santa Clara 6-0, 6-2. Musilovich then beat Vanja Radunovic of Washington 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the round of 32. Andjela Kankaras beat Jessy Mekpoh of San Fransisco 6-1, 6-1. Ksenia Googe defeated Melissa Kobayakawa of UC Davis. Liudmila Vasilieva, who had a first round bye, beat Katharina Knoebl 6-0, 6-4.

Lea Jansen fell to Taylor Davis of California in her first round match 7-6 (2), 6-1. Jessica Gomez lost to Rebeca Delgado of Sacramento State 6-3, 6-0. Marina Nicolas fell to Amelia Herring of Stanford 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, Fournier and Jansen beat Julie Hansen and Jenifer Widjaja of Pacific 9-8 (5). They advance to the second round and will face Alexa Lee and Amy markhoff of Cal Poly Saturday morning.

Play resumes Saturday Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. at Taube Tennis Center
