PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State Cougar football team has added Portland State to its 2008 football schedule, Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced Thursday.
The Cougars will host the Vikings in a Sept. 20 nonconference game at Martin Stadium. The contest marks the first-ever meeting between WSU and Portland State on the football field. WSU had previously announced it will face Baylor and Hawaii in non-Pacific 10 Conference games next season.
The Baylor contest will be played in Waco as part of a return arrangement from last season's Cougar Gridiron Classic presented by Washington's Beef Producers at Qwest Field in Seattle, a game in which the Cougars used a last-second Loren Langley field goal for a 17-15 victory.
In February of 2006, the Cougars announced a three-game series with Hawaii beginning in 2008 at Hawaii. WSU will host the Rainbows in 2009 then return to Hawaii during the 2011 season.
The complete 13-game 2008 schedule has not been finalized.
Season tickets, along with tickets for the Cougar Gridiron Classic game, Sept. 8 versus San Diego State at Qwest Field, are currently on sale. Tickets are available online at www.wsucougars.com, by phone at 1-800-GO-COUGS, or through all Ticketmaster outlets.
