WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University student-athlete Abe Lodwick has been named to the 2011 Pacific-10 Men's Basketball All-Academic First Team, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday.

This year marks the sixth-straight season a Cougar has been named to the all-academic first team, as Nikola Koprivica was named to the team last year. Over the last five seasons, WSU has earned all-academic honors 15 times. Previous first team all-academic honorees include; Koprivica (2010), Aron Baynes, Daven Harmeling, Koprivica and Rochestie (2009), Robbie Cowgill, Harmeling and Rochestie (2008), Baynes, Cowgill and Harmeling (2007) and Cowgill (2006).

Lodwick, a redshirt junior from Bend, Ore., is a communication major with a 3.21 grade point average. He is an all-academic honoree for the second time after earning second team accolades last season. Lodwick has played in all 34 games for the Cougars this season, starting 31 of them. He's averaging 3.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game. This season he's doubled his minutes played as a redshirt sophomore last year and is averaging nearly double the amount of rebounds from last season. His best scoring output this year came at Arizona State Feb. 19 where he scored 11 points. He grabbed a season-high eight rebounds twice, most recently at Stanford, Jan. 15.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
