THIS WEEK: The WSU women's tennis team will host No. 49 the Ducks of Oregon, Saturday at 3:00 p.m.at the Spokane Racquet Club in Spokane, Wash.
SCOUTING THE OREGON DUCKS: The Cougars have a strong rivalry with the Ducks. Although, Cougs were victorious in the last two meetings, they are 11-16 all-time against them. The Ducks are currently 3-7 overall, 0-5 in the Pac-10, and in the middle of five match losing streak after losing to Loyola Marymount and No. 30 Fresno State last weekend. Oregon will have to face No. 17 Washington Friday, before travelling to Spokane to face the Cougars.
HEAD COACH CARI GROCE ON THIS WEEKEND: "Oregon is a tough squad, and I expect that we will match up well with them. I expect to see some great tennis this weekend."
LAST WEEK: The Cougars upset No 44, the Cougars of BYU 4-3, Saturday, in a dual hosted by the Washington Huskies. The Cougars were not able to outlast the No. 17 Huskies, as they fell 6-1, Sunday.
GROCE ON LAST WEEKEND: "I was very pleased with the way we played against BYU. We fought hard against Washington, but we weren't able to pull it out. We went into this weekend thinking that if we came out with a 1-1 record, then the weekend would be a success. And that's what we did."
COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: The WSU Cougars moved ahead of the Oregon Ducks in the ITA rankings this week. Currently the Cougs are No. 48, while the Duck are holding the No. 49 position. Junior Erica Perkins is currently ranked No. 41 in singles, while senior Ana Moura and partner Stacy McKenna are holding on to the No. 47 doubles spot.
NEXT WEEK: The Cougars will travel to sunny California to battle San Diego State and San Diego Monday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 14, respectively.
