PULLMAN, Wash. - FOX Sports Net announced Monday, Feb. 19, that it has selected the Washington State/UCLA match-up in Pullman for its regional wildcard game, March 1, changing the game time to 7:30 p.m.
Both teams have been ranked amongst the nations best this season with the Cougars currently holding the No. 9 spot in the Associated Press poll and the No. 11 spot in the ESPN/USA Today poll. UCLA is ranked fourth in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today polls.
The two squads have already faced off once this season, resulting in a 55-52 Cougar loss, Dec. 28, to the then- No. 1 Bruins at Pauley Pavilion. The Cougars led by as many as 10 in the first period before UCLA battled back to take the lead, 40-39, eight minutes into the second half.
Neither team led by more then two points during a six minute span before UCLA opened up a six point lead with 3:29 left in the game. An Ivory Clark dunk with 54 seconds remaining brought the Cougars within one, 53-52, but Clark was then charged with a foul on Arron Afflalo who knocked down the two ensuing free throws to give UCLA the win.
The March 3 match-up vs. USC was not selected for the CBS or ABC spots through the Pacific-10, but at the time of this release, Athletic Department officials are working with television partners to get the game televised.
Both the UCLA and USC match-ups are sell-outs. For more on Cougar Athletics, visit www.wsucougars.com.
