PULLMAN, Wash- THIS WEEK: The Washington State University men's and women's cross country teams travel to Seattle Saturday for the Sundodger Invitational...University of Washington hosts the event...17 Cougars will compete, four men and 13 women.
WSU RECEIVES RANKINGS: Both the men's and women's teams were recognized in the Sept. 15 Division I Cross Country Regional Rankings...Cougar men ranked eighth in the West Region...women ranked tenth...West Region includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, and Arizona.
DRAKE'S TAKE ON THE SUNDODGER: "On the women's side we are going to go out and see how we stack up against the competition," head coach Jason Drake said. "So it will be good for our leaders, Sara Trané and Lisa Egami and Chelsea VanDeBrake; they have all been looking good in practice. We have run there a lot and we know what times we get there so we will see how we are doing.">br>
THE SUNDODGER: The Sundodger is typically a regional meet that draws teams from Washington, Idaho and Oregon...run takes place on the grass playing fields of Lincoln Park in Seattle.
COUGAR CROSS COUNTRY CONVERSATION WITH COACH DRAKE: Cougar Head Coach Jason Drake will conduct a brief meeting with all Cougar Cross Country family and friends in attendance at each competition this season...the meet and greet for the Sundodger meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. and Coach Drake will be at the Washington State team tent to talk over what he's looking for from the team at this meet and answer questions about Cougar Cross Country teams.
TEAM PLACINGS 2007: On the men's side Washington finished first, WSU placed second, UC Davis finished third, Eastern Washington fourth, Western Washington fifth, Idaho sixth, Santa Clara seventh, and San Francisco placed eighth. On the women's side Washington placed first, Idaho finished second, San Francisco third, Santa Clara fourth, UC Davis fifth, Eastern Washington sixth, Seattle Pacific seventh and WSU finished eighth.
LAST YEAR'S HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars were tough competitors at the 2007 Sundodger...Andrew Jones was the top finisher for the Cougar men with a third-place finish...the team finished second out of a eight-team field...Sam Ahlbeck finished 18th...Dominic Smargiassi placed 20th...David Hickerson placed 21st...Luke Lemenager placed 44th...Evan Blanshan finished 52nd...on the women's side, Lisa Egami finished 26th and Amanda Andrews placed 32nd...Ashlee Wall finished 34th...Anna Layman placed 67th...women's team placed eighth.
