PULLMAN, Wash. --- Washington State Head Coach Bill Doba's first full recruiting effort resulted in a class rated in the top 25 by most of the nation's premier recruiting services.

"We're very excited about this class. We've got an outstanding group of athletes and met almost all of our needs. They are all great people and come from outstanding programs," Doba said.

"I'd like to give a ton of credit to Coach (Robin) Pflugrad for this recruiting class. Our new staff responded well under his direction. I feel he is not only one of the best recruiters in the nation, but also the very best recruiting coordinator."

The Cougars 24 high school and four junior college signees comprise the most highly-decorated class in program history. Collegefootballnews.com tabbed WSU's group as the 19th-best nationally, while TheInsiders.com rated it No. 21.

The Cougars shined at several spots in the Rivals.com position-by-position rankings. WSU's running backs signees were rated seventh nationally, while the receivers checked in at No. 21, the offensive line at No. 24, and the defensive backs at No. 21.

WSU opens the 2004 season Sept. 3 at New Mexico.

"Washington State loaded up defensively on the defensive line, linebacker, and the defensive back positions." --- The Insiders.com

"Other evaluators of football flesh are agreeing that this looks like one of the best recruiting classes in Cougars history." --- Craig Smith, Seattle Times

"It may be the most decorated group of recruits the Cougars have ever seen, at least in terms of national rankings." --- Jon Naito, Seattle Post-Intelligencer

"They really helped themselves on the defensive line and at linebacker. They filled their class with top-heavy talent but did get some solid regional recruits, and it's pretty balanced. But the reason why they've been so successful is that they don't try to be USC and (instead) focus on kids that want to be in Pullman. It's been a successful formula." --- Allen Wallace, SuperPrep
