WALNUT, Calif. -- Washington State's Ruby Roberts ran the 3000m steeplechase in record time Thursday night at the 53rd Annual Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.

Roberts, from Kingston, Wash., ran a time of 10-minutes, 40.24 seconds, which was third-place in the Women's Open A section of the 3000m steeplechase. Roberts' time is the WSU freshman school record, replacing Meghan Leonard's 2005 time of 10:44.91, run in Seattle. Roberts' time, run in just her third steeplechase, is also the sixth-fastest all-time in Cougar women's records.

Also in early evening racing, Andrew Gonzales, a redshirt-freshman from Kennewick, Wash., ran a lifetime-best time of 8:59.46, for 13th place in the Men's Olympic Development Elite 3000m steeplechase. Gonzales' lowered his PR by 22 seconds Thursday night.

The later events for Cougar distance runners Thursday night will be reported in the Friday recap.
