PULLMAN, Wash. -- The WSU women's tennis team will travel to Stanford University Oct. 22-26 to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional. Fifteen other teams from Washington, Oregon, and Northern California are participating in addition to the Cougars.
In the singles competition, Liudmila Vasilieva and Elisabeth Fournier were seeded fifth and sixth in the top 16, respectively. Both will receive a first round bye. Vasilieva will face the winner of Katharina Knoebl of Sacramento State and Kacie Wagner of Santa Clara. Fournier will face the winner of Catie Visico of California and Patricia Skowronski of Oregon.
Lea Jansen will open the tournament against 15-seed Taylor Davis of California. Olga Musilovich will face Carmen Pham of Santa Clara. Jessica Gomez will compete against Rebeca Delgado of Sacramento State. Andjela Kankaras will face Molly McDevitt of Oregon. Ksenia Googe will open her weekend of play against Melissa Kobayakawa of UC Davisand Marina Nicolas will face Amelia Herring of Stanford.
In doubles action, WSU will have four teams competing. Fournier and Jansen will compete against Julie Hansen and Jenifer Widjaja of Pacific. Musilovich and Vasilieva will face off against Andjela nemcevic and Samantha Smith of Washington. Gomez and Nicolas will open the tournament against Katharina Knoebl and Alina Savchuk of Sacramento State. Googe and Kankaras will face off against Trudie Du Toit and Rebea Stuckemann of Oregon.
The last time WSU participated in the ITA Regionals was 2008, when Elisabeth Fournier advanced to the round of 32 as a freshman.
