MOSCOW, Idaho - Lindsey Egeland led a trio of Cougars in double figures with a career-high 17 points in Washington State's 89-72 overtime loss to the Idaho Vandals in women's basketball action, Wednesday at the Cowan Spectrum.

The loss drops WSU to 2-5 while Idaho improved to 2-4.

Brittney Hawks recorded her third double-double of the season, and sixth of her career, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The senior center from Rexburg, Idaho sparked a WSU rally that nearly earned the Cougars the win in regulation.

Down 68-61 with 1:31 left in the second half, WSU closed out regulation play with an 8-1 run to send the game into overtime. Hawks started the rally by converting on a three-point play to cut the Cougars' deficit to 68-64 with 1:06 remaining. After a free throw by Idaho's Jen Schooler extended the Vandals' lead back to 69-64, the Cougars' Emma Joneby nailed a three-pointer to slice the Vandals' advantage to 69-67 with 57 seconds left.

A steal by Hawks immediately gave the Cougars the ball back and, after a 30-second WSU timeout, a Francine McCurtain bucket pulled the Cougars even at 69 with 48 seconds left to play in regulation. The Cougars had a chance for the win but a Hawks' jumper bounced off the rim in the waning seconds.

In the extra period, Idaho outscored WSU 20-3 on the strength of 11 points from Darci Pemberton to capture the win.

The Cougars could not overcome the Idaho scoring tandem Pemberton and Julie Wynstra as the duo combined for 47 points. Wynstra poured in a game-high 24 points while Pemberton added 23.

With her 16-point effort, Hawks recorded her fourth game scoring in double-digits this season while McCurtain chipped in 11. Egeland reached her career-high total by converting on a career-high six field goals.
