BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Washington State's men's cross country team finished last among 35 teams in the men's 'A' 8,000 meter race, while the women finished seventh competing in the women's 'B' 5,000 meter event at The Indiana University Cross Country Course in Bloomington, Ind. Saturday.

Out of 239 individual runners in the 'A' race, WSU's best finisher was freshman Johnathan Welsh who clocked in at 25:57.1 to finish in 128th place. Welsh's pace was nearly two-minutes slower than first-place finisher Steve Fein of Oregon, who captured medalist honors in 24:06.4.

WSU sophomore Scott Johnson finished 190th in 26:35.8, while the Cougars' other scorers took three of the last four places en route to a last place finish with 1,024 team points. Pacific-10 Conference foe Stanford won the team event with 126 points.

In the women's 'B' event, the Cougars captured seventh place out of 19 teams. Junior Megan Maynard led the way for WSU with a sixth-place time of 18:35.9, while Alishia Booterbaugh finished 12th in 18:55.3. Appalachian State's Mary Jane Harrelson was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 'B' race, doing so in 17:52.4 - a time that would have placed her 24th in the women's 'A' race.
