Hello All-

Wow what a great conference! As I take time to reflect on the Pac-10 Championships, all I can think about is what a great conference we belong to. Our women's team really had a great day, and they end up 5th. Keep in mind that four teams ahead of us are ranked 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th respectively in the national poll. Our women's place was good enough to move up to the 5th spot in the regional poll, and 31st in the national poll. Polls are nice, but the beautiful thing about our sport is that everyone gets a chance to race next week at the NCAA Regionals.

Isley Gonzalez led our women's team with an 8th place showing, and keeping in mind that this probably the best conference in America up front, Isley competed with the best. This was a big break through for Isley and I am so excited for her. Sara Trané and Meghan Leonard both had really solid efforts as well and with a little more rest should be able to make a splash at the Regionals. I really think that if we can run this well again next week we'll have a serious chance at getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.

Looking at the men's race, again I was pleased with the efforts of our guys. They ran pretty well, but, again, this is the Pac-10. The top five teams are ranked in the national poll, and when you add Cal Poly and Portland to the Regionals, this is the deepest region in the NCAA again this year. Like last season I feel our men are ready to make a serious run at an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships next week.

Andrew Jones continued to run well, as did Alex Grant and Drew Polley. The course was as fast as a track and I really feel that our team is more prepared for the 10,000 meters we will see next week at the regionals. The guys are excited and truly believe they will beat some teams and get one of those spots.

So, we are training well this week, are injury-free (knock on wood), and will shut down next week to rest for the biggest meet of the year. Then we are off to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

Until next time, Go Cougs!
