PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University incoming freshman golfer Kristen Rue recently competed at the 111th USGA U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.

Rue, out of Gig Harbor, Wash., finished sixth at the USGA Women's Amateur Qualifier held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood in late July, shooting a round of 74 to earn a spot into the Championship. At the championship, Rue shot rounds of 78 and 82 to post a total score of 160 (+18).

Earlier this summer, Rue tied for second at the Washington State Women's Amateur Championship, held at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. Rue fired an opening round two-under 70, produced an even-par 72 in day two before posting a final round one-over 73 for a total-round 215 (-1), two shots off the winner.

"We are very proud and excited for Kristen after playing so well at the USGA tournaments this summer," stated Cougars third-year head coach Kelli Kamimura. "Kristen is great player with an exciting future and we can't wait for her to begin her Cougar career this fall."
