HONOLULU - The Washington State University women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational held at the University of Hawai'i, Saturday.
In singles play, the Cougars faced host Hawai'i, winning four of seven matches. Junior Liudmila Vasilieva defeated Katarina Poljakova in the top spot 6-3, 6-2 and senior Elisabeth Fournier beat Jamie Pawid in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 sophomore Ksenia Googe defeated Xenia Suworowa 6-3, 6-0 while Martina Kostalova beat Andjela Kankaras 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 for one of the Rainbow Wahine's two wins. Freshman Elizaveta Luzina posted a straight-set win over Kelsey Daguio at No. 5, sophomore Olga Musilovich fell to AglaeVan Den Bergh in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6, while freshman Anastasia Romantsova fell to Rebecca Faltusz 6-2, 6-4 at No. 7.
In doubles play against Kentucky, Vasilieva and Luzina had a big win against No. 34 Jessica Stiles and Khristina Blajkevitch 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, Caitlin McGraw Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff defeated Kankaras and freshman Charlotte Koning 8-5 while Musilovich and Founier fell to CeCe Witten and Stephanie Fox 9-8 (7).
The Cougars begin an eight-match homestand Jan. 19 when the team hosts Lewis-Clark State and Idaho at Hollingbery Field House.
