PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State Cougars fell to the Arizona Wildcats, 78-61, in Pac-10 women's basketball action, Thursday at Beasley Coliseum.

WSU dropped to 8-18 overall and 6-8 in the Pac-10. Arizona improved to 15-9 and 6-7 in the Pac-10.

Sage Romberg led WSU with 16 points. Ify Ibekwe led a contingent of four Wildcats who scored in double figures with 23 points. Davellyn Whyte (20 points), Soana Lucet (16 points) and Brooke Jackson (10 points) completed the quartet.

Both teams used runs to take sizeable leads during the first half, Arizona at eight and WSU at 11. But the half ended with the Cougars holding a slim one-point advantage at 36-35.

The second half stayed close throughout the first 10 minutes. With the game tied at 52 with 9:41 remaining, Arizona went on a 14-0 run to take a 66-52 lead with 5:07 left and the Wildcats maintained their double-digits advantage the rest of the way.

The Cougars shot 15-of-36 from the field in the first half but struggled in the second half, making 9-of-32 shots. Arizona shot over 50 percent in each half en route to a 30-of-55 (54.5 percent) shooting performance.

WSU returns to action vs. Arizona State at Beasley Coliseum, Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. It will be the Cougars' annual Pink Zone game and fans are encouraged to come to the game wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
