PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's golf team opened the 2009-10 season with the first round of the Inland Cup Monday, the Cougars' second annual home tournament held at the par-72, 6,126-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
Freshmen Ali Thompson posted a 77 (+5), making 11 pars in her first collegiate round of golf. She is currently in a tie for ninth place headed into the second round.
Sophomore Kristen Allard opened the tournament with an 80 (+8), which places her just outside of the top 25 in a tie for 27th.
Two other freshmen, Emma Betland and Ellen Park, also made their collegiate debuts. Betland is currently in a tie for 37th with an 81 (+9), and Park carded an 82 (+10) and is in a tie for 41st. Junior Allison Travis finished the first round tied with teammate Ellen Park in 41st.
Together the team posted a score of 320 (+32) and is currently 13 strokes behind tournament-leader Nevada. First year coach Kelli Kamimura was excited to see her young team playing competitively in their first tournament
