INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Erin Eldridge, who graduated from Washington State in May, finished tied for 30th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter breaststroke at the United States Olympic Swimming Trials Thursday.
The Kirkland, Wash., native finished in a time of 1:12.70, which was not good enough to crack the top 16 and advance to the event's semifinals.
The effort was disappointing for Eldridge, who entered the event seeded 15th. The first Cougar to be named an NCAA qualifier, Olympic Trial qualifier and All-American, will have a second chance at making the Olympic team when she swims in the 200-meter breaststroke Sunday.
She will compete in the preliminaries in the morning in hopes of advancing to the semifinals that evening. The final for the event is Monday, with the top two times qualifying for the Olympic team.
