NEW YORK - Former Washington State University men's basketball student-athlete and current Golden State Warrior, Klay Thompson, has been named to the 2011-12 NBA All-Rookie First Team, the NBA announced Tuesday.

Thompson received the fourth-most points with 43. He's joined on the first team by 2011-12 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kyrie Irving of Cleveland (58 points), Ricky Rubio of Minnesota (49 points), Denver's Kenneth Faried (46 points), New York's Iman Shumpert (40 points), San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard (40 points), and Detroit's Brandon Knight (40 points).

The 11th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2011 NBA Draft, Thompson led all rookies with a .414 3-point field goal percentage (111-for-268) and ranked 18th overall amongst all players during the 2011-12 NBA regular season. He was also third amid all rookies for free throw percentage (.868, 79-for-91), fourth in scoring (12.5 ppg) and ninth in minutes played (24.4 mpg).

USA Basketball announced Monday that Thompson has been chosen as one of 13 NBA players selected for the 2012 USA Men's Select Team that will train against the 2012 USA Basketball Men's National Team during its July 6-12 training camp in Las Vegas.

The NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Houston's Chandler Parsons (33 points), Sacramento's Isaiah Thomas (27 points), New Jersey's MarShon Brooks (18 points), Minnesota's Derrick Williams (16 points) and Cleveland's Tristan Thompson (16 points).

The voting panel consisted of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.
