Four WSU Women Win at Vandal Indoor Track Meet

MOSCOW, Idaho - Four women and a pair of coaches from Washington State's indoor track and field team won events at the 31st Annual Vandal Indoor Track Meet at the University of Idaho's Kibbie Dome Friday night.

WSU senior Tamara Diles won the women's pole vault with an improved NCAA Provisional Qualifying height of 13-feet, 5 1/4 inches (4.10m). Freshman Tiffany Maskulinski placed third in the vault after clearing the bar at 12-1 1/2 (3.70m).

La Shawnda Porter won the 200m dash with a time of 24.93 seconds with Cougar teammate Nicole Hatcher second in a time of 25.10.

Cougar assistant coach Ellannee Richardson edged out 2004 Jamaican Olympian Alison Beckford in the women's 400m dash as both crossed the line in a time of 52.90 but Richardson was declared the winner of the photo finish.

In other field events, WSU's Robin Mikesh won the high jump with a leap of 5-6 1/2 (1.69m). McKenzie Burgess Garberg won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 45-10 (13.97m) with teammate Jessica Zita second by only an inch with a throw of 45-9 (13.94m).

Volunteer assistant coach Andrea Thornton won the women's discus with a toss of 160-11 with Garberg's toss of 147-4 taking second place.

On the men's side of the ledger, Ryan Thomas finished second in the high jump after he and Eastern Washington's Chad Chambers cleared 6-6 (1.98m) but Chambers won with fewer misses.

WSU freshman Matt Lamb, competing unattached, took second place in the discus with a PR of 176-1 (53.67m), and then finished third in the shot put with a PR toss of 55-0 (16.76m).

Former Cougar All-American sprinter Anthony Buchanan won the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.73 after running a 6.69 in the prelims.

Washington State will also compete at the McDonald's Open Indoor Track Meet Saturday at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
