MOSCOW LAST CHANCE MEET HAS REAL MEANING FOR SOME COUGS: While some members of the Washington State University track and field teams have wrapped up their indoor seasons of competition, others will be running, jumping and throwing this weekend to reach or improve their NCAA qualifying marks at the Moscow McDonald's Last Chance Meet, Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, at the Kibbie Dome on the University of Idaho campus...action begins Friday night with the discus at 4 p.m. with running events set for 6 p.m...Saturday morning the long jump and women's pole vault begin at 9 a.m. with the first running event at 9:30 a.m.
WSU MEN WIN, WOMEN THIRD AT MPSF INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Washington State University men won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship and the Cougar women finished third. The WSU men scored 108.5 points for the team title, with Arizona second at 105 and Washington third with 104 points. Utah State was fourth with 85 points, followed by UCLA, 83, Oregon 60.5, Arizona State, 32.5, Stanford 30, and Long Beach State 2.5. The Cougar women were not able to three-peat as champions as a strong Arizona team took the title with 142 points followed by UCLA with 130, and WSU third at 125. Arizona State was fourth with 51.5, followed by Utah State, 51, Washington, 50, Stanford 45.5, and Long Beach State, 16. Benson Jones was a double winner, capturing the men's long jump and the triple jump. The Cougar team of Will Thrift, J.K. Haines, Scott Johnson and Jon Welsh won the distance medley relay. For the Cougar women, Agneta Rosenblad set a school record in route to her long jump title, leaping 21-feet, 1/2 inch, and Ellannee Richardson won the 400m dash.
