Women's Golf Finishes Second in Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State women's golf team moved up two spots in the final round of the Giustina Memorial Classic to finish in second place. The par 72, 6,282-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club played well for the WSU women with four of the golfers shooting in the 70s on the final day.

Freshman Ali Thompson has proven for the second consecutive week that age doesn't matter, posting a 75 (+3) in the final round for a total of 226 (+10) finishing fifth overall. Thompson recorded six birdies and 33 pars through the three rounds and has now finished fifth in each her first two collegiate tournaments.

Fellow freshman Emma Betland also has had a great start to her collegiate career finishing in the top-25 last week at the Inland Cup and finishing in the top-10 this week. Betland posted a 75 (+3) in the final round for a tournament-total of 227 (+11), finishing in a tie for sixth only one stroke behind Thompson.

Sophomore Kristen Allard had the low round in day three leading the pack with a 71 (-1) and moving up 15 spots on the leaderboard from 26th to 11th place. Allard's career-low round gave her a three-round total of 230 (+14).

Junior Allison Travis posted a 79 (+7) with a three-round total of 238 finishing tied for 24th in her third top-25 finish. Freshman Ellen Park ended the day with an 85 (+13) for a tournament total of 252 (+36).

The team finished in second place jumping two spots from day one. WSU passed Wyoming and tournament host Oregon State. The Cougars posted their lowest team round of the week with a 300 (+12) and finished with a tournament-total of 921 (+57).

The Cougars continue the season next week at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
