NEW YORK - Washington State University redshirt senior center Kenny Alfred has been named to the Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List, the organization announced today.
The Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's top center. The winner will be honored at a presentation banquet held at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb., Jan. 16, 2010.
Alfred, who was also named to the Spring Watch List, is one of 12 individuals making a repeat appearance on the watch list. He is also one of only three Pacific-10 Conference centers mentioned on the list of 43 student-athletes.
Of the centers earning All-Pac-10 recognition in 2008, Alfred is one of only three returning in 2009. Alfred enters 2009 entrenched as the team's starter, having started 32 of WSU's last 33 games at the position dating back to his freshman season, when he was named Freshman All-America Second Team by Scout.com.
The leader of the Cougars' offensive line, Alfred was named WSU's Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2008. He has also garnered recognition on the Pac-10 All-Academic Team.
