First Day Complete for Cougar Trio at All-American Invitational

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Seniors Nora Gaal, Chris Martinez and Orsolya Sallai finished their first day of competition Saturday at the All-American Invitational.

Sallai faced Imke Reimers of Nebraska and lost 6-2, 6-3. Martinez fell to Georgia Tech's Dasha Potapova, 6-3, 6-3 and Gaal came up short against her Pac-10 opponent Alex McGoodwin of UCLA by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Doubles did not offer the Cougars much more as Martinez/Sallai fell to Potapova/Kacie Anson, 9-7.

The All-American tournament field includes the nation's top collegiate players.

Gaal, Martinez and Sallai were not the only Cougars competing Saturday. Zsofia Fodor and Amy Toth continued competition in day two of the Cal-Nike Invitational in Berkeley,Calif.

Fodor and Toth were defeated in doubles by Tiffany Lee/Monica Wiesner of Cal, 9-8(4).

In singles consolation competition Toth fell in to Arizona State's Sabrina Capannolo, 6-3, 6-2. Toth went on to play seventh-seeded Christina Visico of Cal and she was defeated after taking the first match, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Fodor could not find a rhythm either as she was handed a loss by Cal's Jessica Shu, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Arizona's Iza Ferreira and Fodor will meet tomorrow in a match set to begin at 10 a.m.
