PULLMAN, Wash.--The Washington State University women's tennis team will open their 2010-11 campaign Sept. 24-26 with the annual Cougar Classic tournament at the WSU Outdoor Courts. In addition to the Cougars, the nine other teams that are participating include Air Force Academy, Portland State University, Gonzaga University, Eastern Washington University, Boise State University, University of Idaho, University of Montana, Montana State University, and Seattle University.
Last year, the Cougars captured three of the four championships. Elisabeth Fournier and Marina Nicolas took the Crimson and Gray singles brackets, respectively, While on the doubles side, the duo of Erin Troedson and Marina Nicolas won the Gray doubles bracket. Fournier and Liudmila Vasilieva finished as runners up in the Crimson doubles bracket.
This weekend marks the first of three tournaments the Cougars will participate in this fall. They follow the Cougar Classic with the Boise State Invitational Oct. 1-3 in Boise, Idaho and then the ITA Regionals Oct. 22-26 in Stanford, CA.
Matches begin Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Results will be available at www.wsucougars.com after each day of competition.
