This Week: The Washington State University tennis team returns home to take on Santa Clara Friday Feb. 11 at noon and Kansas Saturday Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. Both matches will be played on the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
About the Broncos: The Santa Clara women's tennis team is currently 6-0 in 2011. The Broncos finished 2010 at 14-7 and fourth in the Western Athletic Conference.
About the Jayhawks: The University of Kansas tennis team opened their 2011 campaign last Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Drake. Last season, the Jayhawks finished 9-14 overall and 1-10 in Big 12 Conference play.
Cougars Enter National Ranks: Following its 5-2 upset over No. 73 BYU, the Washington State women's tennis team entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings this week at No. 72. The last ranking for the team was March 16, 2010, when WSU held a No.70 national ranking
Last Week: The Cougars went 1-1 on their first road trip of the season. After falling to No. 48 Utah Thursday, WSU bounced back to upset No. 73 BYU.
Coach Hart: Washington State's Lisa Hart is entering into her eighth season as head coach. Hart's overall record at WSU is 78-93. WSU is 18-8 under Hart in the month of January.
Fall Season Success: Junior Elisabeth Fournier reached the quarterfinal round of the ITA Northwest Regional hosted by Stanford. Senior Marina Nicolas won the Crimson Singles bracket at the Cougar Classic hosted in Pullman, and Ksenia Googe finished second in the Gray Singles bracket. Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe also brought home the Crimson Doubles championship. Nine players finished the fall with a winning record.
Underclassmen Success: Entering into the 2011 season, WSU boasts six of nine players as underclassmen, with five of them being in the top six.
Next Up: WSU hosts No. 38 Boise State Saturday Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
