PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State men's cross country team defeated Eastern Washington, Idaho and Gonzaga in dual-scoring to sweep the WSU Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

Led by John Welsh, who finished first in 26:52.5 over the 8,000 meter course, the Cougars narrowly defeated EWU 26-29 and Idaho 25-30, but easily defeated Gonzaga 15-40. Oscar Franco-Parra finished second overall in 27:03.7. Ian Johnson cracked the top-five in 27:11.

Megan Maynard captured first-place in 18:38.9 to take individual honors in the women's 5,000 meter race, but WSU still fell to EWU 25-30. Alishia Booterbaugh finished fifth for the Cougars in 19:33.8.
