MISC. MIKE PRICE COMMENTS:

WSU SCHEDULE: "It is great to have seven home games and I like our break in the middle (Oct. 16). It is such great scheduling we can play away and still play in Martin Stadium (Idaho's home game in WSU's stadium). If we win at home, we can go to a bowl game."

INCOMING FRESHMEN: "At a couple of positions, we will be looking at our incoming freshmen for help. One of the tight ends could work his way into a role, especially when we use two or three tight ends. The incoming cornerbacks will also get a chance to step up and see what they can do, as will one of our running backs.

TRANSFERS: "We think we have some immediate help from our transfers. Garviea Freeny was a spectacular offensive lineman in junior college. John Williams, a safety, might be the best unknown transfer player coming in. He could challenge just about anyone on defense. He is a tough kid.

PAC-10 RACE: "UCLA is the defending champion and they have a good club coming back, even though they are missing some key players, like the quarterback. One team not missing a lot of key players is Arizona. They are loaded. I haven't seen an Arizona team as loaded since I have been in the league. They have two talented quarterbacks, a big-time running back, and they always play tough defense. They may be the team to beat with that many outstanding players back. After that it is very competitive. Obviously USC has gotten better and I think the other teams will be better. One thing this conference will have next year is a host of outstanding running backs. For the last few years it has been a quarterback league, but I think this year the running backs will dominate the offenses, for the most part."
