LEADING THE WAY
Cougar cross country head coach Pete Julian is in his third year coaching at WSU...he came to WSU after a highly successful career as the cross country head coach for four seasons, as well as the track and field head coach for three at Metropolitan State College of Denver...Julian is dedicated to recruiting talented young runners and developing training routines that lead each student-athlete to their highest potential...Tim Riley is the progam's volunteer assistant coach for the third year.

RACING THIS SATURDAY
The Washington State men's and women's cross country rosters for the NCAA West Regionals look the same as the Pac-12 Championships...sophomore Ruby Roberts will not compete due to injury.

WSU RECENT HISTORY AT NCAA WEST REGIONALS
The best finish for the Washington State men's cross country team at the NCAA West Regionals in the last four years was in 2007 with an eighth place finish...in `08, the Cougar men took ninth out of 25 teams...in `09 the men placed 10th out of 28 regional teams competing, and last year, they were 14th of 25 teams...the WSU men's best finish in recent history at the NCAA West Regionals for the men was third place in 1998...the best finish in the last four years for the women was also in 2007 with sixth place...in `08, they took 10th out of 30 teams...in `09, the WSU women were 15th of 25 teams, and last year they placed 16th out of the 33 teams competing...last fall, the Oregon men and Washington women were West Regionals champions.

COACH JULIAN'S EXPECTATIONS FOR SATURDAY'S RACES
"The women, I think we are a year away from where we want to be going into this week. The women will get some good experience there, and we feel good about placing in the top 15, which would be good since there will be 30 teams at regionals.

"On the men's side, we feel we need to run well for us to have a chance to go to the NCAAs (Championships). I'm not sure what place that is, but we feel like if we execute our race plan and the guys run to their capabilities, we have got a solid shot at being in the conversation when the (at-large) teams are announced next Monday.

"(The regional meet) brings in three conferences. I think Cal Poly's has an awesome men's team this year, they are really strong. Also, UW - we beat UW by just a few points last week, so they are certainly smelling blood in the water. We have certainly got our hands full, but I'm confident that if the men run strong we should be okay."
