PULLMAN, Wash. -- Idaho's Matthew Wauters won the men's 35-pound weight throw with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 68-feet, 1/4 inch (20.73m), Friday night in the opening event of the WSU Open Indoor, a two-day meet held at the Indoor Practice Facility. It was the third consecutive year Wauters has won the WSU Open weight throw.
Vandal teammate Russ Winger had the second-best throw at 65-1 1/2 (19.85m). Evan Ruud, from Central Washington took third with a best toss of 60- 1/2 (18.30m). WSU sophomore Chase Mancuso threw 52-11 1/2 (16.14m) for sixth while redshirt freshman Vic Asher threw 47-11 3/4 (14.62m) for 10th.
Central Washington's Krissy Tandle won the women's 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 48-8 (14.83m). Idaho's Jane Demme was second with a throw of 45-5 3/4 (13.86m).
The WSU Open continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the remaining field and all the running events. Spectator admission is free of charge.
