COUGAR TRACK HERE, THERE, AND MORE: The Washington State University track teams have several competitive locations this weekend...three Cougars will compete at the Pacific-10 Conference Heptathlon/Decathlon Championships Saturday and Sunday at Berkeley...Steve Dwyer will be WSU's representative in the decathlon and All-Americans Whitney Evans and Ellannee Richardson will be competing in the heptathlon...a small band of Cougar sprinters, hurdlers and vaulters and jumpers will compete at the Modesto Relays even smaller group from WSU, three steeeplchasers and a high jumper, will be at the Cardinal Qualifier Sunday at Stanford.

PAC-10 MULTI-EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS:This year's Pacific-10 Conference Track & Field Championships is the men's 71st annual and the women's 15th annual...the meet is staged during two-weekends, beginning with the Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships...this year's site rotates to Edwards Stadium on the University of California's Berkeley campus.

PAC-10 HEPTATHLON FIELD: Defending champion Missy Vanek, a senior from Cal, is red-shirting this season...WSU's Cicely Clinkenbeard placed third in her first heptathlon in 2000, but is also red-shirting this season...another Cougar who placed last year, Agneta Rosenblad took sixth in her first and last heptathlon, is concentrating on the high hurdles and long jump events and will not be back in the multis...this year's WSU's entries are Heptathlon All-Americans Whitney Evans and Ellannee Richardson...both are red-shirt sophomores...Richardson, from Gladstone, Ore., finished second at the 1999 Pac-10s and set the American Junior Record with her 5,678 points and fourth place at the NCAA Championships...Evans, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, placed third at the 1999 Pac-10s and seventh at the NCAAs with a Canadian Junior Record total of 5,579 points...that same year, Evans also finished second in the Pac-10 high jump and fourth at the NCAA Championships...UCLA's All-America 400m hurdler, senior Michelle Perry, has the top point total (5,657) coming into the Pac-10 Championships...Evans scored 5,468 points for second place at the Baldy Castillo Meet (Tempe), March 22- 23...Richardson tallied 5,377 points for third at the same meet.

Whitney Evans's lifetime best heptathlon marks: 100m Hurdles - 14.51, High Jump - 1.81m / 5-11 1/4, Shot Put - 10.48m / 34-4 3/4, 200m - 25.04, Long Jump - 5.77m / 18-11 1/4, Javelin- 37.22m / 122-1, 800m - 2:18.56. Total - 5,579 points, 1999 Boise

Ellannee Richardson's lifetime best heptathlon marks: 100m Hurdles - 13.93, High Jump - 1.66m / 5-5 1/4, Shot Put - 10.28m / 33-8 3/4, 200m - 24.04, Long Jump - 5.95m / 19-6 1/4, Javelin - 38.18m / 125-3, 800m - 2:14.95. Total - 5,678 points, 1999 Boise

PAC-10 DECATHLON FIELD: The 2000 Pac-10 Champion was Cal senior Bevan Hart, so the heir apparent is Lorenzo Santiago, from Oregon...Santiago tallied 7,649 points for second last year and comes into the conference championship with a leading 7,726 points...Hart and Santiago were also one-two in the 1999 Pac-10 multis...WSU's Steve Dwyer, a junior from Redmond, Wash., did not compete last season after placing fourth in the 1999 Pac-10s with 6,734 points...Dwyer finished fifth at the Baldy Castillo Meet (Tempe), March 22-23, with 6,186 points after having a lifetime best first day total of 3,500 points...on the second day of competition, Dwyer did not clear a height in the pole vault.
