Cougars Produce Solid Marks At Vandal Indoor Track

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Add two more Washington State athletes to the NCAA Provisional Qualifying list as Matt Alverson cleared 7-feet, 1 inch to win the high jump, and Andrea Thornton heaved a winning shot put mark of 14.95m/49-0 3/4 Friday night at the Vandal Indoor Invitational Track & Field Meet at the Kibbie Dome.

Thornton also won the 20# weight throw with a mark of 17.74m/58-2 1/2, off her NCAA PQ mark fo 60-2 thrown earlier in the season at Cheney.

Ellannee Richardson bettered her 400m dash school record time set two weeks ago. Richardson won Friday night in a blazing time of 54.14, improving her NCAA PQ standing.

Agneta Rosenblad was second the 55m hurdles but ran a prelim time of 7.69, just off her school record and NCAA PQ time of 7.68, run last weekend at the Kibbie Dome. Idaho's Angela Whyte won the high hurdles in 7.69 while Rosenblad clocked a 7.70 in the final.

Arend Watkins won the men's 55m high hurdles in a time of 7.21.

Competing unattached, Whitney Evans won the high jump by clearing 1.77m/5-9 3/4, an NCAA PQ mark. Evans is redshirting the Cougar indoor season.

Anthony Buchanan took on Washington speedster JaWarren Hooker in the 60m dash with Hooker winning in 6.62 and the talented Cougar freshman finishing second in 6.82. WSU's J. K. Haines was tied at fourth in a time of 6.99.

Qieed Ishmael improved his personal-best time in the 400m dash with a second-place time of 48.80.

WSU athletes will continue competition at the Moscow McDonald's II Open Meet, which begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
