This Week: The tennis team opens its 2011season with a double-header against LCSC and Seattle Friday, January 21, 2011. The Cougars and LCSC will face off at 9 a.m., while Seattle and WSU begin play at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Simmelink Courts at Hollingberry Fieldhouse.

About the Warriors: The women's tennis team made its 17th appearance at NAIA nationals in 2010, going 1-1 in the tournament. The Warriors finished the season with an overall record of 7-13.

About the Redhawks: The Redhawks finished their dual match season with a record of 9-11, including two victories over Portland State and one over Nevada.

Last Season: The Cougars finished their season with a 12-14 overall record and 1-7 in the Pac-10.

Coach Hart: Washington State's Lisa Hart is entering into her eighth season as head coach. Hart's overall record at WSU is 78-93. WSU is 18-8 under Hart in the month of January.

Cougars in Season Openers: WSU has won the last five season openers, dating back to the start of the 2006 season. Last year, the Cougs defeated LCSC 7-0 at home in their first match of the season.

Fall Season Success: Junior Elisabeth Fournier reached the quarterfinal round of the ITA Northwest Regional hosted by Stanford. Senior Marina Nicolas won the Crimson Singles bracket at the Cougar Classic hosted in Pullman, and Ksenia Googe finished second in the Gray Singles bracket. Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe also brought home the Crimson Doubles championship. Nine players finished the fall with a winning record.

Underclassmen Success: Entering into the 2011 season, WSU boasts six of nine players as underclassmen, with five of them being in the top six.

Next up: WSU continues its homestand, hosting Eastern Washington and Idaho Friday January 28, 2011 with matches beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
