Final Stats

TUCSON, Ariz. - Washington State's Ireti Amojo scored a career-high 21 points but the Cougars were unable to overcome a poor first-half shooting performance in a 64-58 loss to the Arizona Wildcats, Saturday at the McKale Center.

The loss dropped WSU to 5-15 and 3-5 in the Pac-10. Arizona improved to 13-5 and 4-3 in the conference.

Amojo shot 7-of-11 from the field, which included a career-high five 3-pointers. Amojo's point total followed her previous career-high effort of 16 points in the Cougars' 70-65 win at Arizona State, Jan. 20. The redshirt freshman from Berlin, Germany has scored in double figures in four of the last five games.

Arizona's Ify Ibekwe nearly had a triple double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals.

WSU missed its first 10 field goal attempts and did not make a dent in the scoreboard until Sage Romberg's jumper with 13:33 remaining in the first half. At that time, WSU trailed only 7-2 because Arizona struggled from the floor as well, making 2-of-13 attempts.

Arizona warmed up, however, and built a 32-16 halftime advantage. In the first half, WSU made 5-of-34 attempts (14.7 percent) with Amojo accounting for three of the field goals.

Arizona extended its lead to 37-18 in the early stages of the second half when WSU finally heated up and went on a 13-0 run to close to within 37-31 with 15:18 remaining. But Arizona responded with seven consecutive points to re-establish its lead to back to double figures and built its lead to as much as 17.

A late run brought WSU back to single-digits and Amojo closed out the game with her fifth and final 3-pointer with three seconds left. WSU outscored Arizona 42-32 in the second half.

WSU returns to action, Sunday, Jan. 30 at Washington. Tip is at noon and the game will be televised live by FSN.
