Cougars Compete In Big Cross Invitational Cross Country Meet

PASCO, Wash.-- The Washington State women's cross country team placed second while the Cougar men's team finished third at the Big Cross Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday.

Ryan Gilmore's second place finish led the Cougar women to a second place team finish, just one point behind Idaho. This was the third week in a row Gilmore has been the top finisher for the WSU women's team. Also running well for the Cougars, Alishia Booterbaugh finished third, followed by Megan Maynard 12th, Greta Johnson 18th, Jenny Filipy 28th, Ana Cabrera 45th, Beth Welander 52nd and Ashley Mathews 68th.

Idaho's women won the meet with 62 points, followed by Washington State 63, Montana State 64, Montana 77, Idaho State 105, Portland 154, Victoria 184 and Gonzaga 206.

Oscar Franco-Parra led the Cougar men once again, as the team finished in third place, just three points behind Montana. Franco-Parra, who finished third, has been the top finisher for the WSU men's team in all five meets this season. Other Cougar finishers include Jon Welsh ninth, Scott Johnson 10th, Kyle Barker 16th, Jim Neeway 34th, Loren Childers 46th, Kurt Hicks 58th, Mike Merrick 67th and Jacob Hazelquist 71st.

Washington won the men's race with 38 points, followed by Montana 69, Washington State 72, Idaho State 99, Montana State 104, Portland 171, Eastern Washington 213, Idaho 220, Victoria 256 and Gonzaga 350.

The Cougars take next weekend off to rest up for the Pre-NCAA Invitational October 14, in Ames, Iowa. The meet is run on the same course the NCAA Championships will be November 20.
