PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University student-athletes Liudmila Vasilieva, Elizaveta Luzina and Elisabeth Fournier garnered Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings, it was announced recently.
Vasilieva, a junior from Yekaterinburg, Russia, earned a national ranking of 101 and a Northwest Regional ranking of 17 after finishing the fall season 10-1. Vasilieva won the 2011 Kansas Invitational Singles B draw and captured the Cougar Classic Flight 1 draw.
Luzina, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, garnered a No. 123 national ranking following her first fall season of competition. Luzina posted a 9-1 record, winning the 2011 Kansas Invitational Singles F crown and the Cougar Classic Flight 2 draw.
In her final fall season as a Cougar, Fournier, a senior from Ottawa, Canada, earned a Northwest Region ranking of 20 after finishing 8-2. Fournier won the 2011 Kansas Invitational Singles A draw and reached the final of the Cougar Classic Flight 1.
Vasilieva and Luzina earned a No. 10 regional ranking for doubles. The duo posted a 7-2 record for the fall season taking first in the Cougar Classic Flight 2 Doubles and reaching the round of 16 at the 2011 ITA Northwest Regional.
The Cougars open the 2012 portion of their schedule at the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational, Jan. 12-14 in Honolulu.
