MOSCOW, Idaho -- Four Washington State University Cougars found their way to the victory stand Saturday at the McDonald's Open Indoor Track Meet at the Kibbie Dome.
For the second straight day, McKenzie Burgess, redshirt freshman from Benton City, Wash., won the women's shot put. Saturday Burgess' winning throw traveled 43-feet, 10 1/2 inches (13.137m) while her winning throw Friday night at the Vandal Indoor went 44-8 1/4 inches (13.62m). Teammate Jessica Zita (freshman, Echo, Ore.) finished in second in the shot with a PR of 43-8 (13.31m).
The other Cougars winners came on the track itself. Kameko Wilson (sophomore, Spanaway) won the women's 400m dash (59.26 seconds), Jaycee Robertson (sophomore, Spanaway) won the men's 60m dash (6.98 seconds), and Jarred Bjerkestrand (freshman, Spokane) won the men's 60m hurdles (8.55 seconds). Jarrell Nelson (sophomore, Bremerton) finished second in both the 60m dash (7.03) and the 200m dash (22.26). Eric Nygard (redshirt junior) ran a PR of 22.28 for third place in the men's 200m.
Next weekend the Cougars will compete at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at UW Dempsey Indoor Facility at Seattle.
