PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nicole McClendon, a sprinter from Granada Hills, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Washington State University and compete for the Cougar Track & Field team, Head Coach Rick Sloan announced Thursday. She joins 21 previously announced signed recruits.

McClendon graduated from Bishop Alemany High in Mission Hills, Calif., last month. She lettered four years as a member of coach David Urbach's track and field squad. Her top 100m time of 12.03 seconds came in 2002 at Innsbruck, Austria. McClendon has also run a 200m time of 24.6.

"We're excited about the prospect of Nicole in our women's program," Sloan said. "We have a need for a pure 100 and 200-meter sprinter. Although she hurt last year, her times as a junior and the video tape that we've watched of her running as a junior would indicate that she has a great deal of potential and can be an outstanding sprinter at the Pac-10 level."
