CORVALLIS, Ore. - Kate Benz recorded her fifth double-double of the season -- and the eighth of her career -- with 16 points and 14 rebounds in Washington State's 83-55 loss to Oregon State in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Thursday at Gill Coliseum.
The loss dropped WSU to 4-11 overall and 0-7 in the Pac-10. Oregon State improved to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Benz, a sophomore from Portland, Ore., nearly recorded a double-double in the first half alone with 10 points and nine rebounds.
In addition to Benz's double-double, Adriane Ferguson scored 11 points for the Cougars marking the 10th double-digits scoring game of the season for the sophomore from Spokane, Wash.
Oregon State's Shannon Howell led all scorers with 33 points including 17 in the first half. Mandy Close added 15 points for the Beavers.
The Beavers held as much as an 11-point advantage on three occasions in the first half before heading into halftime with a 37-27 lead.
WSU was able to pull within nine at 48-39 with 15:28 remaining but a 7-0 OSU run extended the Beavers' lead to 55-39 with 12:09 left. OSU's lead would not fall below double figures the rest of the way.
WSU returns to action at Oregon, Saturday, Jan. 15 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
