STANFORD - The Washington State University women's tennis team wrapped up the fall season on Sunday at the ITA Northwest Regional. The ITA Northwest Regional was the last of four tournaments the Cougars competed in this fall.
The team opened play in Lawrence, Kan. Sept. 16-18. The Cougars captured numerous singles titles, senior Elisabeth Fournier, junior Liudmila Vasilieva, junior Andjela Kanakaras, junior Ksenia Googe, freshman Elizaveta Luzina, freshman Charlotte Koning and freshman Anastasia Romantsova all took first place in their respective flights.
The Cougars returned to action in Pullman at the Cougar Classic Sept. 23-25. It was another successful tournament, as three players took first place Vasilieva, Googe and Luzina. Vasilieva defeated teammate Fournier 6-4, 6-1 to take first and Luzina defeated teammate Kankaras 6-3, 6-1. In doubles play, Vasilieva/Luzina placed first for the Cougars.
Three individuals participated in the Eastern Washington University Fall Classic.
Senior Fournier had a strong showing at the ITA Northwest Regional held at Stanford Oct.21-25. Fournier made it to the fourth round, taking down Julia Hanson of University of the Pacific 6-3, 6-2 and Cecilia Estlander of California 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Luzina and sophomore Musilovich made it the third round of play.
The Cougars will return to action Jan. 12 at the Hawai'i Invitational.
