WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University men's basketball's Klay Thompson has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 22-28, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday. The junior guard helped lead the Cougars to wins over Portland and Fresno State last week.

A native of Ladera Ranch, Calif., Thompson scored 35 points in the Cougars' 84-68 win over Portland in the Cougar Hardwood Classic at Seattle's KeyArena, marking the third-highest scoring output of his career and the most since putting up 43 against San Diego last November in the Great Alaska Shootout. He added six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals against the Pilots. In WSU's first true road game of the season, Thompson finished with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists in the 66-55 win at Fresno State.

For the week, he averaged 28.5 points, while shooting 21-of-33 (.636) from the field, 5-of-10 (.500) from three-point range, and 10-of-12 (.833) from the free throw line. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two contests.

Thompson jumped from 24th to 20th on the WSU's all-time scoring list last week and now has 1,118 points in his career. He also moved into a tie for seventh for three-point field goals made with 152, matching Marcus Moore's mark.

This is the third honor for Thompson who becomes the first Cougar to earn a Player of the Week honor three times in his career. Last year he became the first Cougar to earn the honors in back-to-back weeks as he was Pac-10 Player of the Week Nov. 23 and Nov. 30. Four WSU student-athletes have earned the honor twice in their careers, Joe Wallace, Bennie Seltzer, Mark Hendrickson and Daven Harmeling. It marks Washington State's 22nd all-time Player of the Week.

The Cougars host Sacramento State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then welcome Kansas State Friday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. as a part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

Also Nominated: Derrick Williams, ARIZ; Trent Lockett, ASU; Omari Johnson, OSU; Jeremy Green, STAN
