Cougar Swimming Opens Season At Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif.-- The Cougar women's swim team sits in second place behind University of the Pacific after day one of the two-day Pacific invite.

Freshman Taryn Ternent (Edenvale, South Africa) swam the seventh-fastest 50 freestyle in WSU history en route to winning the event with a time of 24.34 seconds. She also anchored the 400 medley relay team to victory, overcoming a two-second deficit for the win.

"Taryn swam tremendously in her first collegiate meet," head coach Rocco Aceto said.

Sophomore Lindsay Henahan (Rochester, N.Y.) added a second place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.62 to give the Cougars a one-two finish in the event.

The Cougars also swam well in the 1650 freestyle, where sophomore Jill Olson (Seattle) captured third with a time of 17:18.08, and Semah Zavareh (Houston) finished sixth with a time of 17:43.39.

Freshman Andree-Anne LeRoy (Nanaimo, BC, Canada) placed fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.87, and freshman Rachel Dong (Paramount, Calif.) finished fifth with a 2:10.17. The times rank eighth and ninth respectively on the school's all-time list.

Action begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the second and final day of the Pacific Invitational.
