As a team, the Cougs have been presented two of the past four WSU Seehafer Awards that recognizes the program with the biggest team GPA improvement from the previous two semesters.

The Cougars continued to shine in the classroom, earning national recognition as part of the NCAA’s Public Recognition Awards for the 2012-13 academic year. The honor is given to programs whose multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores are among the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. WSU posted a perfect four-year average score of 1,000, and was one of 43 women’s basketball teams honored for its accomplishments. WSU, along with Stanford, were the only two Pac-12 Conference schools recognized.

The Pullman, Wash. native assists in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and monitors daily eligibility reports. Werner also serves as the point person to organize, budget and execute precise and detailed travel itineraries for the Cougars, domestically and internationally.

Werner previously served as director of women's basketball operations for University of Washington, joining the staff prior to the 2003-04 season under Daugherty.

Prior to her work at UW, Werner served as the assistant coach for the Whitworth University women’s basketball and softball teams from 2000-03. During her tenure with the women’s basketball program, the Pirates posted an overall record of 48-28 and 34-14 in conference play and won the 2003 Northwest Conference Championship.

Werner graduated from Whitworth with a bachelor's degree in business management in 1999. While on staff, she earned a master's degree in education with an emphasis in guidance and counseling in 2003.

Werner was a four-year letterwinner for the Pirates, setting the single-season record for 3-point percentage as a senior, making 31-of-66 attempts. Werner also served as a team captain for a squad that finished 17-8. Werner also played two seasons of softball for the Pirates.

While attending Pullman High School, Werner was a three-year letterwinner in basketball, volleyball and softball, earning All-Frontier League honors as a senior in volleyball and basketball.

Werner is the daughter of Pullman residents Mike and Vivian Werner. Her father Mike played basketball for the Cougars, lettering in 1964 and 1966-67 under coach Marv Harshman.
