1996-97 Men's Basketball Recruits

Cougars welcome five to program.

June 23, 1997

Early Signees (November, 1996)

Ron Selleaze (6-5, 215, Guard, Oakland, Calif.) - junior transfer from Fresno City College...named MVP of the Central Valley Conference...averaged 15.9 points (476 points in 30 games), 7.8 rebounds (tops on team with 233), 2.6 assists (3rd on team with 77)...shot 56.7 percent (165-2910 from the field, top mark on the team among regulars...also shot 76.3 percent from the free throw line (132-173).

Leif Nelson (6-11, 280, Center, Riverside, Calif.) - junior transfer from Utah Valley State College...started his college career at Nebraska, where he spent two seasons...a redshirt for the Cornhuskers during the 1994-95 season, Nelson saw limited time during Nebraska's run to the NIT title in 1995-96.

Brian Stewart (6-10, 220, Center, Tucson, Ariz.) - Washington State's only prep recruit...graduated from Salpointe Catholic High and took the team to the state title game in 1996-97...averaged over four blocks per game.


Late Signees (April, 1997)

Kabandany "Kab" Kazadi (6-1, 170, Point Guard, Newton, Kansas) - junior transfer from Hutchinson College (Kansas)...team posted a 34-15 record during his two years...as a sophomore, averaged 11.4 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds per game...Hutchinson advanced to nationals after his team won the Region 6 championships and Kazadi was picked to the all-tournament team...6A South Central Player of the Year while a senior at Newton High (Kansas).

Kojo Mensah-Bonsu (6-6, 220, Forward, London, England) - junior transfer from Champlain College (Vermont) where he led squad to a 31-2 record and the NJCAA national quarterfinals...named to the Region 3 all-conference first team...team's second leading scorer (15.1) and rebounder (7.0)...finished the year with a .516 field goal percentage and four double-doubles.
