PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's basketball program added a pair of signees for the 2000-01 season, head coach Jenny Przekwas announced Tuesday.

The signing of Brittney Hawks (Rexburg, Idaho/College of Eastern Utah) and Whitney Martindale (Salem, Ore./Chemeketa CC) closed out the WSU recruiting class at seven.

"Brittney and Whitney join us from the junior college ranks," Przekwas said."Brittney plays a post and at 6'2 will add much needed size and depth in the paint, and as MVP of Region XVIII, brings valuable success to our program. Whitney will most likely redshirt next season and add to the class of 2003 of (Kelley) Berglund, (Jessica) Ottmar, and (Alison) Eldridge. She's a strong rebounder and aggressive scorer. Both players bring experience to the new look of the Cougar team next year."

Hawks earned a second team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American selection last season after averaging 20.4 points and 10.7 rebounds at College of Eastern Utah.

"One-on-one, I haven't seen anybody that can handle Brittney," College of Eastern Utah head coach Dave Paur said."She was single covered in two games last season and scored 40 and 35 points in those games."

Martindale, a 5-10 guard/forward, who averaged 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds last season, is the second player from Chemeketa to sign with the Cougars, joining teammate Sarah Barrett.

"Whitney is a good all-around player," Chemeketa coach Marty Branch said."She is a hard worker who is strong and intense."
