PULLMAN, Wash. - Tracy Morris scored 19 of her game-high 32 points in the first half to pace visiting St. Mary's to an 83-59 win over Washington State Thursday in a non-conference women's basketball game at Friel Court.

Jerkisha Dosty added 18 and her sister Jermisha Dosty chipped in with 13 for the Gaels, who led 50-32 at halftime and shot 49 percent from the field, hitting 35 of 71 shots. Morris' point total was a career high.

Freshman Kelley Berglund led WSU (3-7) with a career-high 14 points, while Katie Nyseth added 11 and Romie De Anda 10. Berglund also led all players with eight rebounds as the Cougars held a 41-40 rebounding advantage.

The Gaels outscored WSU 23-12 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take command. Leading 27-20 with 8:13 to go in the first half, St. Mary's raced to a 50-30 advantage before WSU's McNeely scored the final bucket of the opening half. Morris had 15 of St. Mary's 23 points during the deciding run.

The visitors' biggest lead was 30 points, 81-51, with five minutes to play. After Morris' jumper 10 seconds into the second half, St. Mary's never trailed by less than 20 points over the final half.

"We had a good practice and a good shoot-around in preparation for this game," Nyseth said. "Then, we didn't play well. I've been here three years and that's been a problem my entire career."

The Cougars stayed within striking distance of the winners through the first 12 minutes thanks to Nyseth, who made four of her first five shots. Berglund added six points and Jen Kerns five in the opening 20 minutes.

WSU opens Pac-10 play, Thursday, January 7 at USC at 7 p.m.

"Pac-10 hasn't started yet and I think if we pick it up and decide we want to play hard, we can win some games," Nyseth said.
